Food resources
The Aztecs were to the point where there was plenty of food so more time could go to more productive activity but in this case it simply allowed more people to go off and fight wars. The Aztecs grew corn, tomatoes, potatoes, chili peppers, avocados and squash. Many of these plants were not known to the Europeans until contact with the Americas.
The Aztecs ate twice a day, and their diets consisted mostly of tomatoes, avocados, atole (porridge), tortillas, and tamales. Some food sold at markets were fruit, vegetables, spices, flowers, dogs and birds.
Chocolate and octli were two foods that were for nobles and warriors only. Octli was the Aztecs' alcoholic drink. However, people caught drunk from octli were put to death.
